Our exclusive rights
No part of our publications or Web sites may be reproduced or transmitted in
any form or by any means, electronic or mechanical, including photocopying,
recording or any other information storage and retrieval system, without the
written permission of the publisher.
Purchasing or obtaining a pattern, whether it be in print or electronically,
does not give the enduser any of the rights granted to the copyright holder.
The copyright owner (not the enduser) has the exclusive right:
- To reproduce the work in
copies.
- To prepare derivative works
based upon the work.
- To distribute copies of the
work to the public by sale or other transfer of ownership, or by rental,
lease, or lending.
- To display the copyrighted
work publicly.
The creator of the work has exclusive rights with or without a copyright
statement. According to the Berne Convention Implementation act of 1988,
copyright notice is optional for all works published on and after March 1,
1989.
How does this apply to me?
Can I make one or more photocopies? Keep in mind that a photocopy
doesn't just refer to using a standard copy machine. It includes scanning,
tracing, screenshots, photographs, etc. And just because you are not charging
for the copy (that is, you are giving it to a friend or someone else for free)
does not make it any less illegal.
Can I use this pattern to make multiple products to sell? The answer
is: Not without the explicit written consent of the copyright holder.
If you found a design and you want to create multiple items, these may be
used as gifts or for your own personal use. You do not have the right to use a
design for creation of items that are to be sold or used for any other
commercial reason. This includes craft shows, bazaars, fund-raisers, etc.
